Stamboul
Stamboul was described as “the greatest trotting horse of his time” by the New York Times. He raced for ten years, from two to twelve years old, slowly beating his own records until he set a time of 2:07:5 for the mile. That record stood until 1893. As a stud, Stamboul was successful, with many of his progeny racing well.
