Sir Ian Standish Monteith Hamilton

Sir Ian Hamilton (born 1853) is primarily remembered as the British general who commanded the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force at the Battle of Gallipoli. His failure in the expedition, although arguably the result of poor planning that he was not involved in and failed naval support that he had no control over, resulted in his recall to England and retirement.
